Email Marketing Tip: Make Money With Second Wave Of Sales

Email Markting Tips: How to Open the Door to a Second Wave of Sales

By Amanda Gagnon

Click. Creeeaaak!

That’s the sound of a subscriber opening your last marketing email – and opening a mental door to more information on that particular subject.

Then there’s that other sound: the silence. That’s a subscriber who didn’t open their door this time.

In one scenario, you got to share some information. In the other, you didn’t. But in both, you’re still standing on the doorstep. So what to do next?

Make the Most of Your Doorstep Status

In either case, if you shrug and walk away, you’ve given up. Stick around and follow up. Sending a second email based on who opened and who didn’t can prompt a second wave of purchases.

This is called behavioral targeting: responding to subscribers’ behavior to get more response from the list and promotions you already have in place. It’s so effective, 71% of our customers report that they plan to do more of it in upcoming months.

And it’s easy as 1-2-3 clicks. AWeber’s new QuickStats show you just who did and didn’t open each email. Follow up with each group with the steps outlined here.

Don’t Just Stand There – Go In!

Your marketing emails probably cover a myriad of topics. For example, if you own a restaurant, you might promote your menu, your wine selection and your catering service.

When you see people consistently open messages about one of these things, you’ve found your niche for that particular topic. Follow up with them!

Source: Aweber Open door tips

  • If they’ve shown interest in a product you’re advertising, put together a compelling reason to purchase with a call to take the next step.
  • If they usually open the emails you send about a particular topic, go more in-depth. Provide helpful details, tell background stories.
  • Explain where you hope to take things, and ask questions. These are your interested customers. These are the people who know most about the topic and will have the most helpful feedback to give.

How to Knock at the Unopened Doors

Sometimes, it’s not anything you did. Your readers are swamped with work or on vacation or their lives have changed and they’re no longer interested.

And sometimes they just aren’t gripped by what they see in the inbox.

So try again. Let a little time go by to make sure you aren’t sending into the same circumstances. Then change the way you present the content and resend it to just the people who didn’t open it.

Here are some suggestions for changing the presentation:

  • If your email is a newsletter that covers several topics, the one your subject line mentioned the first time might not be the most interesting to your readers. Choose a different subject as the primary content and change your subject line accordingly.
  • If your email covers just one topic, try changing the subject line. Think about what problem or question someone might have that your email answers, and highlight that.

If Knocking Doesn’t Work, Ring the Doorbell

You might notice that some of your subscribers haven’t opened a message in a long time. These are fatigued subscribers. They’ve checked out, but they haven’t left the building yet.

Ask them to stay by sending them emails designed for reactivation.

Knocking Around the Block

There are also messages you could send to follow up with subscribers who clicked (or didn’t click) on your links and who purchased (or didn’t purchase) from your emails. We’ll be talking about those in the next few weeks, so keep your eyes open!

Do you send messages to subscribers based on whether or not they opened previous emails? What do you send them?

How To Split Testing: More Sales

Every marketer knows tricks to generate more sale is to do split testing. How does one do it and what does it involve. Here we will take a look at the 3 steps to generate more sales by split testing and how to steps.  Email marketing it finest when it done right.

eMail Marketing: 3 Steps to More Sales By Split Testing

By Amanda Gagnon

Take a look at that last promotion you sent. Go ahead, open it up.

How is your subject? Interesting enough to open? How about your call to action? So intriguing that you want to click it?

Good! But opens and clicks only measure interest. They’re not your end goal.

Your goal is to make sales. It’s the revenue from customer purchases that keeps you afloat. So a broadcast’s true worth can be measured in the sales it generates.

The trick is finding out how to put the message together in a way that prompts the most purchases. With a little setup, you can do this right in your AWeber account.

Step 1: Set Up Sales Tracking

First, you’ll need to make sure you’re tracking the purchases subscribers are making in response to each broadcast.

You can do this with sales tracking. If you’ve already set this up, skip to step 2. If you haven’t yet, head over to our Knowledge Base and follow these steps.

Once you’re ready, it’s time for…

Step 2: Tweak Your Promotional Broadcast

Start with your original broadcast design. The goal is to see if a different version will sell more, so you’ll need to create that other version.

To get started, take a look at:

  • Your call to action. Is your design eye-catching enough? Would different words be more compelling? Should it move above the fold (the point where readers need to scroll to see more)?
  • Your text-to-image ratio. Experts recommend a blend of 60% text to 40% images to illustrate your message while avoiding spam traps.
  • Your preheader. Do you have a whitelisting request? A link to your newsletter online? An unsubscribe link?
  • Your format. Are you using the best layout for your content? Or should you try one of these options instead?
  • Your images and copy. Are you presenting your product or service in the best possible light? Or would your readers respond better to something else?

Step 3: Split Test For the Winning Design

To figure out which design will generate more sales, use the broadcast split testing feature in your account. This sends each version to a randomly selected, equally sized audience so you’ll get the most accurate results.

After the broadcasts go out, follow the QuickStats for each version to keep track of sales. (Just click on the subject on the Broadcast page to see how they’re doing.)

Once you have the winning version, you know what design to use for future promotions!

How Likely Are You to Follow These Steps?

Does setting up sales tracking and a split test sound like something you’re likely to do?

If it does, what changes do you think you’ll test? We’d love to hear about your results!

If not, what’s standing in your way?

Make Money With Email List: How to Use Words Properly

As a website owner or blogger, you may decide one that having a email list is best way to generate an income. Perhaps, you have decided to give away free ebooks or create a landing page for your product and wondering why sales are not impressive or no one is signing up for you newsletter. It could be your words. below are some tips if you are using aweber email list.

aweber2Try Aweber Email Marketing Risk Free

How To Use Words Properly in email List:

You write words in your marketing emails. Many or few, you use them to communicate your ideas.

But you don’t write words to communicate alone. You write them to request an action. Sometimes it’s subscribing, responding, purchasing – whatever you want readers to do.

The words that carry most of the weight of the request are the few at the end, where you normally provide a link to proceed: your call to action. This is the decision point. The words you use here could sway readers either way.

So how can you know which ones to use? You can guess, based on your own preferences. Or you can know for sure by running a split test.

A Case of Textual Turn-Off

The Cabot Heritage Corporation, a stock advisory, ran a split test on two opt-in buttons. The buttons were identical in design and location. The difference was in the wording: one read “Send My Free Report”; the other, “Start My Free Subscription.”

Just two words changed, but that change had a powerful effect. The “subscription” button decreased conversions by 22.9% in the span of just two days.

What Happened Here?

Different words trigger different associations, and those can make or break the response.

In the above case, it looks like readers associated “send my report” with a single contact and “subscription” with regular communication, requiring more commitment.

But your readers’ responses will partly depend on your subject and the relationship you already have. The phrase that crashed and burned for Cabot Heritage might take your opt-in rate soaring.

That’s why you need to test for yourself. But when you do, don’t forget to…

Think About the Long Run

In Cabot Heritage’s test, it looks like people preferred the idea of one mailing to regular updates. But whichever button they pushed, they were added to the same mailing list.

It would be interesting to see how people who didn’t expect regular mailings reacted when they started getting them. Did the unsubscribe and spam report rates go up with the opt-in rate?

When choosing the words you want to test, keep in mind that you need to set correct expectations. A well-informed subscriber is a happy subscriber.

How To Test Your Call to Action

Your first step is to write several options that set those expectations and fit the usual “voice” of your brand – how you usually represent your brand in writing.

There are several approaches you could take:

You could go with a simple directive.
You could put words in the subscriber’s mouth.
You could restate the benefits that the subscriber will get.

Once you’ve designed a few options, split test them against each other. (If you use AWeber, here’s how to test your web forms and your broadcasts.) Soon you’ll know just what phrase calls your audience to action best.

Who Answers When You Call?

Are you getting the response you want from your calls to action? Are the subscribers you collect interested and engaged? Do they click and purchase?

Have you split test your call to action in the past? How could you test it now for an even better response?

What Happened To Scroogle and Scroogle Alternatives

If you were a scroogle user, then you already know how useful tool it was,for those of you who do not know, scroogle allowed you to search without your own bias and preference, meaning you got more better view of your ranking. If you search your own site in google, Google gives it more preferential treatment for your own site, having search and worked on it. For example, if I were to search for “Home Business Ideas” in google my site would come up much higher ranking on my computer, compare to say someone else truly searching for home business ideas search. It would be inflated ego boost to see my site ranking higher but it would not be right ranking. So if you want a unbiased ranking, scroogle was a great and free alternative to other paid services that many Internet marketer used.

I have been relying on scroogle to find out my site ranking for free. Yes, you can find your website ranking with market samurai or other paid tool, but scroogle did that perfectly with ease and simpleness to use for anyone.

I knew once in a while scroogle goes offline so after days when I was unable to get any searches done in scroogle, I had to find out what happened to scroogle and why it was not working for more than a few weeks.

What Happened to Scroogle?

Whenever scroogle was down, people used to see “google is mad at us” type of message. This time there was no message but it said scroogle is not found.  I had to find out that what happened and I found out that it was not Google who shut down the site, it was shut down by its own owner after much frustration, read here : Daniel Brandt  at Betabit Article.  Nice, free alternative site was attacked by hackers to create denial of service issues. God knows why any hackers want to ruin a good, free service like scroogle is beyond me. But scroogle is gone this time and unlike 2010, it seems scroogle is gone for good.

Find Scroogle Alternatives:

So, if you used scroogle or interested in scroogle alternative, that let you do annyomous search and find your website ranking, what a person to do? I did little research and found a few alternatives which may work as scroogle alternative for now.

What Page I am On:

This is a neat little free search engine tool. You enter your keyword and website URL, it will tell you what page your keyword is sitting on. It does not tell you ranking by number, but you will know page it is sitting on. Currently, what page I am on site is able to do first 10 page searches and be able to tell you if you are there or not.

What I like about What Page I am on:

  • Free
  • Enter keyword and URL to know your ranking
  • Easy to search

Things to consider:

  • Only first 10 pages search
  • Does not tell ranking # such as #35 or #1, just tells the page URL shows up

Page Wash dot com:

Page wash is free search engine tool where you can do specific search, for example, google.com or google.co.uk for UK based search and so on. You also will have an option for remove all cookies, scripts, remove ads and so on.

Things I like about Page Wash:

  • Anonymous search
  • Free
  • Country, place based search result if you want
  • Can clear cookies, scripts
  • remove ads and hide referrer information

Things to consider:

  • It does not tell you ranking, you have to find it

Duckduck go:

Duckduck go claims to have more privacy than Google and it surely has less ads and spam ads above compare to Google. Seems pretty neat for searching online.

Things I like about duck duck go:

  • Pretty neat name for a search engine: seems like we are playing a game 🙂
  • Free
  • Less ads and spam
  • Private searches

Things to consider:

  • For ranking you will have to dig and search through your site info
  • Search engine results are bit different than google ranking

Start Page:

I am beginning to like start page a lot. You can do private search through ixquick proxy, it does not record and keep your IP information and search are based on unbiased google search. What is not to like;

  • Free
  • Anonymous search
  • No IP recording: protecting your privacy
  • Unbiased search results
  • Quick

Things to consider:

  • Ranking have to be manually searched in

Additional Choice:

There is Encrypted Google for those who may trust google to give unbiased search result. I have used it and it tends to give US based search which is fine for me, as I am US. However for those outside US may not get clear search result for their countries.

Why You Should Not Use GoDaddy For Your Internet Business

Avoid Godaddy

As an internet marketer and working from online business, one the way I make some money is via affiliate marketing. For example, if I recommend a product and if my reader buys it, I make a small commission. Affiliate marketing is one of the great way to make money, selling other people’s product without much effort to create a product myself.

As a person who has lost some money on stupid or over hyped products, I know it is not fun to lose money on crappy products. I like to do ethical internet marketing and show you which products to NOT buy and save your money. I have  written a few reviews to show you products that I have used and/or like. Here is a popular domain and webhosting Godaddy and why you should avoid using it.

GoDaddy Hosting and Domains

I have been GoDaddy Customer and still in process of removing my domains with other Registrar such as Namecheap or Bluehost. I have been a customer and an affiliate for GoDaddy but I am no longer recommending Godaddy for following reasons;

1. GoDaddy upsells pricy add-ons.

Many people use GoDaddy’s dirt cheap coupon codes to get $1.99 domain and cheap hosting. However, when you try to buy it, godaddy tries to add so many upsell and some additional item so your final price is much higher. One time, I had to call back to remove extra add-ons that came with upsell.

2. GoDaddy is confusing for Newbies

A few of my clients was trying to set up  first blog, and Goddady site was confusing and hard to use for novices. As seen in #1, Godaddy upsells and adds some services that it becomes expensive, confusing and frustrating for some. Unless you know and have used it before, I would suggest buy from elsewhere or if you must buy it, make sure to have an expert next to you.

3. GoDaddy Supports SOPA and Backs Off

As I have written in my post SOPA  issue, which is thankfully postponed for now, Godaddy was initially supporting SOPA and PIPA. In easy terms, that means, if you had a domain or hosting from Godaddy, they can shut down your site if you used any copyright material or even linked to it by chance. So think of this way, great site like wikipedia would not exist, as there will be no free knowledge sharing, no downloads, no linking .

After many internet marketer took their business away, GoDaddy relented and stop supporting SOPA sort of. When you are running a business, you want to protect your business and content and work with companies that are stable and stable in decision making.

4. GoDaddy Hosting is slow

Godaddy apprantely puts so many domains on one server, slowing the websites for everyone involved. As these sites competes for space and bandwidth, it slows down your site, means if you lose your readers and customers for sites that sell merchandise.

Not only that, if your site loads up slow, Google penalizes your site and ranks it much lower. Why would anyone want to rank low, knowingly?

Another problem with slow hosting and slow server is, you will not know if anything is broken or needs maintenance on your site for half an hour or longer.

5. GoDaddy does not give you cPanel Control

For those of you, who are already blogging knows the power that cPanel can give in controlling and managing your domain and content. I have bluehost for hosting this website, while they are about $6 a month compared to $4 a month for GoDaddy, bluehost gives me cPanel to manage my domains. As an administrator of your site, I rather have a control of my own site and content via cPanel. You get none from Godaddy.

6. GoDaddy have lousy relationship with publishers.

For Godaddy, if you are a small publisher making little money for them, they do not care much. I have 4 people told me, they bought Godaddy from my links, yet it never clicked or registered with GoDaddy. I sent them proof of purchase from clients and their email and there was no response. I finally got to talk with one person, who seemed nice enough but did not do anything for me in the end.

Not only that, clients who bought Godaddy domain or hosting, had a such as terrible time with Godaddy customer service that I felt as I recommended them, it was my responsibility to only recommend good product with good customer services. Now, I know all Godaddy’s Rep are not bad, some are good, I have had a good customer service with them. However, generally speaking for many people, customer services from Godaddy left much to desire.

Conclusion:

I have been a Godaddy customer and have both good and bad experience. I still have a few domains with them, which I am in process of moving to Namecheap. As namecheap is cheap and provides free whois guard, unlike Godaddy or bluehost.

The biggest lure of Godaddy is abdunce of coupon codes available, making you feel you are getting a great domain and/or hosting a cheap price, but by the time you buy it it may not be cheap at all and you end up spending same of more for the same thing. See example, here is a rough price breakdown for domain according to domain comparison site.

Price Breakdown:

  • GoDaddy $10.69 per year
  • Namecheap.com $9.69 per year
  • Name.com $8.99 pear year

Backlinks and Link Popularity Tools

Everyone in blogging and internet marketing knows the importance of backlinks and tools that people use to gain backlinks, are they worth it?
Before discussing the link popularity tool, let’s discuss link popularity itself. What is it? Link popularity basically refers to the total number of web pages which link to your web site or any of its individual pages. The reason it is so important is because this is one of the main factors that search engines use to evaluate your website and where it will be ranked. If your website is ranked high with the search engines, you will come up in the first results when a potential customer goes online and searches for what your business offers. That’s why webmasters are concerned with their link popularity.

So what is a link popularity tool? It depends on the tool. There are many facets to link popularity and link building so there are tools that correspond to those aspects. Some tools will perform an analysis on the various search engines to show you how many pages are linking to your site. They can also tell you which pages are linking. Some will actually give you a score so you can judge how well you are doing. Some will give you the opportunity to compare your site to others. Most free tools will only give you the results from the biggest search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN.

You’ll probably notice that the amount of links varies significantly from search engine to search engine because the figures displayed represent the number of inbound-links that are known to each search engine in particular and will vary based on the size of its database. Search engines also figure out certain inbound-links (again, this varies according to the search engine) so certain backlinks may not figure into the total.

While you don’t want to become obsessed with using this tool or checking the data all the time, it is important to keep tabs on your links. You want to keep your links as high-quality and relevant as possible and knowing where they are coming from can help you manage that information.

After you analyze the information that you get from your tool, you can then continue on with your link building strategy. Many tools are also connected or related to other services that can help you with this realm of link-building as well. Just remember that the same rules apply if you should decide to go with a link building service to take care of that aspect of your business. You want to get a quality service so make sure you do your research in order to get the most bang for your buck. While many link-building tools are free, link building services are definitely not. However, what they save you in time and effort could very much be worth it in terms of cash.

By all means, take advantage of a link popularity tool and then decide if you plan to go as far as to hire someone else to handle your backlink strategy.

However, If you have regular website which goes for $6.95 for hosting and about $14.95 for domain. So, let’s do the math.

SBI = $300/year

Compare to hosting your website:

Domain name buying:$14.95 (Typical, sometimes you can get .info domain for cheaper)

Hosting your website: $6.95 for month (Bluehost) * 12 months = $83.40

Email Marketing: $19 (aweber) * 12 months = $228

Web design: $150-$1000 (one time expense) = $550 (avg cost 1st year)

Web Template: Free to $87 = $40 (avg cost)

Total expenses for first year if you go hosting your own site = $916.35 approx.

As you see, for first year, hosting your own website can be expensive compared to site built it. However, as time goes by, this cost will may reduce. So many people suggest that when you starting out in blogging, start with SBI and when you learn to rope, go with traditional hosting plan. It makes sense to me.

Let’s suppose you are work at home mom, or if you want to boost your income a little bit, starting this program can be beneficial if you do not want to worry about design, marketing and other steep learning curve that comes with blogging.

Advertising Space – After your hub is published advertisements may be placed in this space. Please note, it can take some time after you publish for the ads to match the content of your hub.

SBI Myth Busters

There are some Myth about the SBI Program, so let’s take a look at it.

1. You can not cancel out of SBI.

Yes, you can cancel and move out of SBI. You may need to redesign your site based on which platform you might be using that is it.

2. You do not own the domain or content.

This is not true. Yes, you do own domain and your own content.

3. People push this program as they get paid money by SBI.

Yes, this part if true, if you buy it from this link, I would make some money. But is little money worth losing my reputation? I do not think so.

4. Can I see some people using SBI successfully?

Yes, of course. You can click here to see some of the happy SBI customers and their websites by clicking here.

Other concerns:

1. What if I do not have $300 a year to pay?

If you see it $300 sounds like a lot, but it is actually $25 a month fees. I am sure many of us, spend that money in eating out or half tank of gas.

They provide all services, such as niche and keyword choosing, web design, email newsletter and marketing your blog which very helpful when you are totally new. Traditional hosting plus services can add up too. For example, if you use aweber email autoresponder it is $19 a month. So do the math and see if it is right for you, only you can tell.

2. I want to go traditional website and hosting.

Sure, there are many places such as godaddy have domains sometimes as cheap as $4.99 and hosting from $5-$7 a month. You may need to learn a little bit about wordpress and html but it is easy enough to do.

3. If I go with SBI, will I make moeny for sure?

No one can guarantees that outcome. All we can do is work hard and payoff will come but then again nothing is for sure. It is like saying can we make money in stocks, some do and some do not. If you are consistent in your work, it might work for us.

4. I do not have any money to start but I want to make money.

It is possible, there are many ways to do that and I am going to write more in details about it. Meanwhile you can do following;

  • Blogger: You can start a free blog at blogger.com, all you need is gmail account.
  • Sign up for adsense: You can sign up for Google Adsense, please read TOS, if people click on any Google ads, you will make some cents.
  • You can write for hubpages, once you have enough hubs that people like, you may see some earning. You can sign up here.
  • You can do online survey for make some money. Cashcrate is one of the survey.

Final Conclusion:

If you always wanted to start on blog or website but were overwhelm and confused, SBI might be right for you. Click here to learn more about Site Bulit it and sign up.

If you are savvy online marketer, this might be bad program for you to sign up. If you are short on money and have lot of debt, I would suggest skip this program and start with free blogger account or writing for hubpages or even doing cashcrate survey as they do not cost a penny to start.

Whatever you choose, always do your own decision and d do what works for you. My reason for writing this post is that there are both pros and cons to every situation and I wanted to provide my honest opinion on it.
